Stretch Marks
What is the cause?
Stretch marks often occur due to rapid growth spurts, pregnancy or periods of rapid weight or muscle mass gain.
Once the skin stretches to its limit, deeper layers beneath the surface may stretch and tear causing thin red or white streaks on the skin surface.
Some medications or hormonal changes are also believed to contribute.
Once stretch marks occur, they are permanent and can be a cause of concern especially around the abdomen and breasts.
While stretch marks are harmless and pose no health risk, many consider them unsightly and seek ways to have them lightened or removed.
