Laser Hair Removal

Laser is most effective at damaging the hair follicle when it is in the Anagen growth stage. In general, most patients experience a significant reduction in hair growth after six months of treatment, and will only require periodic maintenance to the treatment areas.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

During treatment laser energy is used to injure the melanin within the hair follicle which is responsible for hair growth. The laser creates an injury to the targeted part of the hair follicle, which results in an overall reduction of hair growth.

Laser hair removal is most effective while hair is in its growth stage, otherwise referred to as the Anagen phase of hair growth. This is because during this phase, melanin production within the hair follicle is at its most abundant.

Multiple laser hair removal sessions are required before a reduction in hair growth can see seen.

What areas can undergo laser hair removal and how many treatments required?

We offer laser hair removal in NYC for both men and women on a variety of areas of the body such as arms and legs, underarms and full bikini, back, as well as lips, chin and sideburns. Depending on the area, thickness of hair and color of skin, patients will require about four to six treatments.

Are the results permanent?

As we age hormonal changes can affect the growth of hair throughout the body. It is not uncommon for those who have undergone treatment to require touch-ups or periodic maintenance.

Laser hair removal is effective at eliminating up to 80% of hair growth and is an ideal way to minimize the amount of time one needs to maintain a hairless, irritation-free state, as well as “shave” time off your daily grooming regimen.

Who is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal in NYC?

We offer laser hair removal on two different types of lasers, the Apogee 755 and the Nd Yag 1064. The Apogee is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I-III, while the Nd Yag is safe for use on Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV.

Candidates ideal for laser hair treatment with the Aura 532 laser are patients with dark hair and light complexions. Patients with darker skin types have more melanin in their skin, and should be treated with the Nd Yag 1064, for laser hair removal. Patients with white or light blonde hair are not ideally suited for this treatment because the hair is not dark enough to target effectively with the laser.

It is also important to note that laser hair removal cannot be performed on skin exposed to the sun or tanning beds, as this may damage the pigment in the skin. Instead it is best to undergo treatment during a period of time when you will be minimally exposed to UVA/UVB rays.
