Below are routes from the eight communities patients most often travel from. Times are approximate and assume normal conditions – season traffic through the crossroads and winter weather both add to them.

What are the routes from nearby towns?

From Highlands, NC — about 12 minutes (about 10 miles)

Leave Highlands heading east on US-64. The road climbs and winds through Whiteside Cove before opening out as you approach the plateau. Stay on US-64 all the way to the Cashiers crossroads at NC-107, then continue a short distance to 71 Commons. Watch for the Whiteside Mountain overlook on your right as a marker that you are roughly halfway. More for what we offer Highlands patients.

From Sapphire, NC — about 8 minutes (about 5 miles)

From Sapphire, take US-64 west. It is a straight, well-surfaced run with no turns to remember. You will reach the Cashiers crossroads at NC-107; the office is just off it at 71 Commons. This is the shortest approach of any community served by the office. More for what we offer Sapphire patients.

From Glenville, NC — about 15 minutes (about 7 miles)

From Glenville, head south on NC-107 with Lake Glenville on your right as you leave town. NC-107 runs directly into the Cashiers crossroads where it meets US-64. Turn as directed for 71 Commons. The lake is the landmark to watch on the way out of Glenville.

From Lake Toxaway, NC — about 25 minutes (about 14 miles)

From Lake Toxaway, take US-64 west. The route runs past the Sapphire Valley area before continuing into Cashiers. Stay on US-64 to the crossroads at NC-107 and continue a short distance to 71 Commons. It is a single-road journey with no junction decisions to make.

From Scaly Mountain, NC — about 30 minutes (about 20 miles)

From Scaly Mountain, take NC-106 north-east to Highlands, then join US-64 east and follow it across to the Cashiers crossroads. NC-106 is the narrower and slower of the two sections, so allow more time for the first half of the journey than the mileage suggests.

From Franklin, NC — about 45 minutes (about 30 miles)

From Franklin, take US-64 east towards Highlands. The road climbs steadily onto the plateau. Continue through Highlands on US-64 and stay east to the Cashiers crossroads at NC-107, then a short distance to 71 Commons. This is a mountain route and weather affects it more than distance does. More for what we offer Franklin patients.

From Dillard, GA — about 40 minutes (about 26 miles)

From Dillard, head east on GA-246, which becomes NC-106 as you cross the state line, and follow it to Highlands. Join US-64 east in Highlands and continue to the Cashiers crossroads. The state-line crossing on NC-106 is the obvious marker along the way.

From Clayton, GA — about 50 minutes (about 33 miles)

From Clayton, take US-441 north to Dillard, then GA-246 east, which becomes NC-106 at the state line and runs into Highlands. From Highlands take US-64 east to the Cashiers crossroads and on to 71 Commons. It is the longest of the regular routes into the office.

Where do I park?

Parking at 71 Commons is off-street and level, a short step from the door. There is no metered street parking to contend with and no stairs to the entrance.
